Responsible Citizenship at School:

Students will collaborate on a teacher-led Scratch program answering questions about the actions of responsible and irresponsible citizens. Student understanding will be assessed by an individual activity asking students to sort images into responsible/irresponsible behavior categories. This is the first lesson in a three-part integrated computer science and civics mini-unit.

Coding Community Rules Part 1:

Students will be introduced to Scratch and why rules are important. On Scratch, students will log in, choose a sprite, and select the community location they will focus on for their project in this integrated unit. This is part 1 of a 3 lesson unit.

Fix the Code: Florida Symbols:

Students will propose solutions to coding errors in a Scratch program that identifies and explains symbols that represent Florida, in this integrated lesson. The students will use their basic knowledge of symbols that represent Florida to search for issues in a coded program in Scratch. The problems present in the code will be scrambled facts about Florida symbols. Students will suggest coding edits and then rearrange and alter the code in the Scratch program.

Students will collaborate with peers while constructing a Scratch presentation that identifies one U.S. symbol and four facts about the symbol in this integrated lesson.
