• Procedure

  
  
  1. Begin the lesson by asking, "What makes a brand stand out to you online?" Teacher will write the key points that come from the class in the board.
  2. Introduce the case study, "Balancing Traditional Methods with Innovation in Business," CPALMS resource ID #220171. Have students read ithe case study individually. Let class reflect on the case study. Ask the following discussion questions:
     
     a. What challenges did Indira face when trying to modernize her family’s traditional bag business?
     b. How did Indira use research to guide her business decisions?
     c. What are some ways Jhola can keep its original customers while attracting new ones?

  3. Students will be divided into groups (3–4 students per group). Their task is to create a presentation and promotional plan as if they were Indira’s creative consultants. Each group will need laptop or computer for the creation of a digital promotional plan.

  4. Each group must answer the following elements in their promotional plan. Teachers can share the attached Slide Presentation file with the students. This can also be used as a guide, while allowing students to use any available platforms, like Canvas, Google Slides, Power Point etc. to create their presentation.

     • Develop a brand strategy for Jhola, balancing traditional craftsmanship with modern market demands.
     • Create a 5–7 slide presentation that includes:
       • Slide 1: Brand Identity: Describe Jhola and a suggested brand identity which incorporates the meaning of Jhola.
       • Slide 2: The Problem: Describe the current challenges that Indira is facing.
       • Slide 3: The Strategy: Present 2-3 focused marketing objectives that combine tradition and innovation.
       • Slide 4: Digital Presence: Provide examples for the look of Jhola’s social media and e-commerce platforms.
       • Slide 5: Customer Focus: Explain 2-3 marketing activities for a promotional plan that will attract both target audiences, loyal customers and trend-driven teens.
       • (Optional Slide 6–7): Brainstorm some future plans or product mockups.

  5. Encourage students to use images, charts, mock-ups, logos, and storytelling to enhance the audience’s experience.

  6. Have groups present to the class. After each presentation, the class can provide feedback using the attached Presentation Feedback handout. Students will provide feedback on the following areas:

     • Was the strategy clear?
     • Was it visually engaging?
     • Did the group balance tradition with innovation?

  7. Teacher can close the lesson by asking the following questions:

     • Why is it important for businesses to stay true to their roots while innovating?
     • How would you pitch your own business idea using digital tools?
