Formative Assessments

Avoid the Shift:

The student will recognize and revise inappropriate shifts in pronoun number and person.

Type: Formative Assessment

Replace Me if You Can:

The student will write a summary of a recently read narrative or informational piece and include the use of subjective, objective, and possessive pronouns. The student will use at least two examples of each form of pronoun (subjective, objective, and possessive). The student will circle the pronouns in his or her writing and identify them as subjective, objective, or possessive.

Type: Formative Assessment

For Emphasis Only:

The student will add three examples of intensive pronouns to a previously written summary of a short narrative or informational text. The student will underline the examples of intensive pronouns in writing to distinguish intensive from reflexive use of pronouns.

Type: Formative Assessment

Make It Crystal Clear:

The student will distinguish appropriate use of pronouns (those with clear antecedents) from vague pronouns in his/her own writing. To complete this task, the student will engage in text marking by highlighting pronouns and identifying the clear antecedent and correcting any vague pronouns (those with unclear or ambiguous antecedents). If the student’s writing does not contain any errors, the student will add sentences with pronouns that have clear antecedents and highlight these additional sentences, if such additions will improve writing quality.
