After rereading chapters 1-3 from the text, The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass and the 13th-15th Amendments, students will better understand Civil Rights and the author’s choice of words to use throughout the text to make a point. Students can identify and explain examples within the text where Douglass uses diction and syntax to establish and achieve his purpose.

There are three lessons that can be used to complement a study of The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass and take a new perspective by merging ELA skills with civics knowledge.

This resource uses a book that is on the Florida Department of Education's reading list. This book is not provided with this resource.

Type: Lesson Plan

Students will read the 19^th Amendment and vocabulary associated with the era and subject. Students will be provided with a passage containing vocabulary and embedded context clues. After, students will complete a graphic organizer predicting definitions, examples and non-examples, visual mnemonics, etc.

There are three lessons that can be used to complement a study of Women's Suffrage speeches and help students take a new perspective by merging ELA skills with civics knowledge.

This is lesson 3 of 3 in a mini-unit integrating civics and 7^th Grade ELA. In this lesson, students will be continuing to review 9 Landmark Supreme Court cases with an opening activity requiring the students to examine the court cases and pick out key academic vocabulary. At this point, students should be ready for a final review which is a matching game. Students will match the court cases, amendments, and key academic vocabulary terms to their descriptions or definitions. This activity can be played multiple times to ensure mastery of the standards.

This is lesson 2 of 3 in a mini-unit integrating civics and 7^th Grade ELA. In this lesson students will be continuing to review 9 Landmark Supreme Court cases with an interactive PowerPoint with primary source quotes that allow students to determine the cases discussed in each of the quotes. Students will then work through an activity (Think,  Write, Pair, Share) to compare and contrast two court cases that they think had the most significant impact on society.

This is lesson 1 of 3 in a mini-unit integrating civics and 7^th Grade ELA. In this lesson, students will be reviewing 9 Landmark Supreme Court cases with an interactive PowerPoint. Students will take guided notes while recognizing the constitutional principles and individual rights in these cases and how they have impacted society. Academic vocabulary will be integrated into the lesson with a culminating key academic vocab activity.

In this MEA, students will decide how many wolves to introduce into Yellowstone National Park's ecosystem. The number of wolves could influence many factors, from the tourism industry to local farming businesses, as well as the populations of other species in the area. Students must choose to introduce the number of wolves they feel will be most beneficial to the preservation of Yellowstone National Park as determined by the mission statement of Yellowstone and the National Park Service.

In this four-part series, students will read informational texts in the form of brochures created by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission. Students will work in groups to complete a graphic organizer to identify text features, determine the meaning of selected vocabulary, and compare central ideas. Students will also conduct research about Florida wildlife to create an original brochure with a variety of text features.

In this lesson, students will learn how their digital footprint(s) can affect them in their job prospect or career and how important it is to always have a positive one. Students will get in groups to discuss what a digital footprint is and what makes up a digital footprint. The teacher will then have students create a one pager on their digital footprint.

Using the case study, "From Chaos to Clarity," students will collaborate with a partner to complete a graphic organizer with conflicts, strategies to navigate conflicts and obstacles, and reasons for selecting the strategies in a workplace setting. Students will write an exit ticket that gives the one conflict management strategy they feel will best fit this scenario.

Students will begin familiarizing themselves with the careers and opportunities within the Education and Training Career Cluster. Education and Training Career specific vocabulary will be provided as students begin answering questions about possible career paths and skills needed for individuals in the Education and Training Career Cluster.
