Mohammed and the Number Genie

In this teaching idea, sixth grade students wrote their own novel after reading "The Number Devil" by Hans Magnus Enzenberger in their math class. Students presented their own proposals for a class story idea, and worked collaboratively to explain the mathematical concepts found within the context of their story.
