From the Articles of Confederation to Two Sides- Lesson 3 of 3:

Students will research significant leaders that were either Federalists or an Anti-Federalist and their reasoning for supporting their respective side. Students will work to create a coded Scratch presentation to support their research. 

This is part 3 of a 3 part mini-unit that integrates Computer Science and Coding with Civics. 

Florida Tackles Invasive Species: Lesson 1:

In this integrated lesson, students will research invasive species and the solutions that Florida citizens can participate in to mitigate the issues associated with them. Students will interact with an example Scratch simulation that illustrates how Lionfish spread.  This is lesson 1 in a 3 part-integrated computer science and civics series to help students understand the invasive species of Florida and how citizens can participate in solving this issue. 

Who Represents the US? (Part 1):

Students will research individuals (James Madison, Susan B. Anthony, Booker T. Washington and Alexander Hamilton) who represent the US. They will create a Bubble Map on one individual.  This is part 1 of a 3 part series that integrates Civics with Computer Science and Coding.  The unit ends with creating a Scratch program on one of these individuals.

Nation for Representation: Part 1:

In this integrated lesson, students will use digital research skills to identify and analyze different types of government including representative vs. other types of government.  Students will complete a graphic organizer. This lesson is part one of a multi-part lesson that will end with a culminating project that identifies characteristics of a representative government using digital resources. 

 

Showing up as a Citizen Coding Project Part 1:

In this integrated lesson, the students will plan a Scratch program where multiple characters interact to demonstrate acts of civility. The students will use prior knowledge of citizens demonstrating civility, cooperation, and volunteerism to plan out a code that shows a character performing an act of civility. The students will use a Scratch planning sheet and Scratch Code sheet to guide their coding creation.

Civics Community Problem Project:

Students will use their knowledge of how citizens and the government can work together to solve issues in the community together through a problem-based learning research project.

Patriotic Holiday Computer Research: Part 1:

In this integrated lesson, the students will research a patriotic holiday or observance and will gather facts about the history and meaning behind the holiday. The students will collect information to be used in their future scratch projects for lesson 2.  The students will work in partner groups to research using digital information resources to locate information about patriotic holidays.
