Clarifications:
Essential Understandings
Concrete:
- Use tools to manipulate the amplitude of a sine or cosine graph (calculator, graphing software, coordinate grid).
- These graphs change heights but do not change horizontal width.
- Understand that the amplitude is the height of the function from the midline. The midline is the horizontal center of the graph and is often the x axis.
- Understand that the coefficient in front of the function changes the amplitude of the function. For example: y=2sinx has an amplitude of 2 whereas y=sinx has an amplitude of 1.
- The amplitude will be |A|, since distance is always positive. Increasing or decreasing the value of A will vertically stretch or shrink the graph.

Cluster:
Model periodic phenomena with trigonometric functions. (Algebra 2 - Additional Cluster) : Clusters should not be sorted from Major to Supporting and then taught in that order. To do so would strip the coherence of the mathematical ideas and miss the opportunity to enhance the major work of the grade with the supporting clusters. |
