- Use a transparency of graph paper to place over a shape. Use the squares on the graph paper to count the area of a circle.
- Use manipulatives, i.e., 1 inch cubes, linking/stacking cubes, to estimate the area of a circle by placing the cubes on top of the circle.
- Given a circle on graph paper, have students count the number of squares that cover the circle. Have students combine partial squares as a part of the count.
